HUNTERS
The Incas hunted.
The women would harvest potatoes south of Cuzco.
Everyone any age would have to work on the land. The government would not help unless there was a famine. When there was a famine in the land the government would then give out grain. The Incas not only hunted they also farmed. The Incas grew a variety of foods such as corn, tomatoes, squash, peanuts, and cotton. The Inca were the first to grow potatoes as well. The Inca raised guinea pigs, ducks, alpacas, and dogs. They also used llamas to get around.

FOLKTALES
The Incas use folktales the same way we use stories. It is a way from telling information of the past that may tell a lesson or is just interesting to listen to. There is one folktale that tells how the Incas think the world was created. When the world was covered in darkness, one of their gods emerged lake. This gods name was con-tici viracocha. This god con brought humans. Then he created the suns, stars, moon, and the emperor Tahuantisuyo. Out of the rocks he made more humans and women who were already pregnant. Finally he sent the humans to the corner of the world but kept one man and a woman at Cuzco.
Another myth of the creation was that the god con was in the form of a human without bones. The humans then forgot of how good con was to then and rebelled against him. He then stopped the rainfall. So then the god pachachamac over ruled con and made his humans into monkeys and made new humans. This might sound silly to us but this is how information of their culture was passed on.

SCIENCE
The Incas built a main road which was 16,000 miles long. The Incas communicated, and had their mathematical system based of a bunch of knots on a string. The Incas even built aqueducts which are bridges that brought water from one place to another. The Romans actually also used this idea but theirs was on a larger scale. The Incas have also used a Quipu for communication. The Incas also had their own education system as well. The children with the highest class would go to school such as the children of the nobles. During the course of the school day the children would learn military techniques and physical education. This was the education given to the boys. For the girls the prettiest and the ones with talent were chosen. The girls learned spinning, cooking, chicha making, religion, and weaving. The Incas were actually really advanced for their time period. On the left is a picture of a aqueduct.
